Ms-Favor

On Oct 4 at 10.30 p.m., the 'Favor' was in collision with the Vietnamese fishing vessel 'BD 83019-TS' about 30 kilometers off the Ca Na estuary in pos. 11°03'49" N 108°56'57" E amid poor visibility. The 'BD 83019-TS', which was 22.6 m long, sank at 10.48 p.m. The owner and captain was Mr. Nguyen Tran Ut (born 1976, resident of An Quang Tay Village, De Gi Commune). The ship had departed from the Ca Na Border Inspection Post (under the Khanh Hoa Border Guard Station) on Oct 4 at 1:50 p.m. The tanker continued on its voyage after the accident without stopping. Ten of the 11 crew members of the fishing vessel were rescued by another nearby fishing vessel, the 'BV 95869-TS', captained by Nguyen Van Tao, at 11.50 p.m. The captain of the distressed ship, Nguyen Tran Ut, was trapped in his cabin when the vessel sank. Despite six vessels participating in the search for him, he could not be found. The rescued crew members were taken to the port of Ca Na (Khanh Hoa), where they arrived on Oct 5 and underwent health checks.Divers were called to search the sunken 'BD 83019-TS' which was found in a water depth of 60 meters of water. They found and recovered the body of the captain on Oct 6 at 11 a.m. The relevant authorities have launched an investigation. The tanker, which had sailed from Phu My on Oct 4, arrived in Kaoshiung on Oct 8.
