Nordborg

The 'Nordborg' suffered engine problems on the morning of Feb 22, 2026, en route from Ijmuiden to Vejle, just above Borkum island. The tugs 'Waterlines' (IMO: 9881770) and 'Waterland' (IMO: 9881768) were deoloyed to assist the ship. It was towed into the port of Eemshaven at around 4 p.m. that day, where it remained stationary as of Feb 27. On Oct 7, 2017, at 1:40 p.m. the "Nordborg" allided with several wooden pilings in the foreport of the old lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel, thereby heavily damaging them. The accident was reported during the stay in the lock, before the vessel berthed at the western railway station pilings in the canal port of Brunsbüttel. It was allowed to continue the voage from Terneuzen to Szczecin at 11.30 p.m. and entered the Baltic Sea in Kiel on Oct 8 at 8.20 a.m. Boats of the Schramm company were called to recover the debris from the water.

Finnish group Bore is selling its general cargoship fleet to focus on ro-ro operations. The company said on Tuesday it is offloading six vessels that constitute its contract of affreightment (CoA) business, which has suffered from “several years of over-capacity and unsustainably poor profitability.”It blamed the small size of the CoA fleet for its uncompetitive position against larger players in the tough general cargo sector. The 3,700-dwt Nordgard (built 1999) and the 3,800-dwt Sydgard and Westgard (both built 2000) and Ostgard (built 2001) are being bought by Wagenborg, for delivery by the end of December. All this will lead to a maximum of 19 out of 31 shore workers being made redundant at Bore.Limestone shipper Nordkalk has agreed a three-year deal with the new owner to carry cargoes up to 2017.

In the evening of Oct 14, 2012, the "Nordgard" suffered engine failure off Arkösund. The ship was underway from Le Havre to Oxelösund when the engines stopped for unknown reasons at 9 p.m. The tug "Freya" came to the rescue just before 11 p.m. and pulled the disabled vessel to the port of Oxelösund where it was safely moored on Oct 15 at 4.30 a.m.
