Grounding off Longyearbyen
In the evening of Sep 18, 2016, at 9.30 p.m. the "Noorderlicht” ran aground with 23 persons on board near Trygghamna northwest of Longyearbyen. The government operated offshore ship "Polarsyssel" (IMO: 9690949) was called to assist and pulled the ship off. First it was considered to tow the "Noorderlicht" to Lonverbyen, but then she dropped anchor in a sheltered area at Trygghamna. The "Polarsyssel“ headed to Ny-Ålesund after the salvage was done.
