Container ship continued on its way after attack
The 'MSC Sky II' has suffered minor damage including a fire after it was struck by the Houthis. The Indian Navy went to the vessel’s aid after the attack and reported that they escorted the ship to safe waters. The ship was sailing from Singapore due to arrive in Djibouti on March 4 and was approximately 91 nautical miles southeast of Aden in the afternoon of March 4, when the Houthis launched two missiles, with one damaging the ship and the second impacting the water. The Indian Navy vessel 'Kolkata', which is patrolling the southern waters and the area in the Gulf of Aden, responded after the attack. A specialized 12-member firefighting team boarded the 'MSC Sky II' early on March 5 to assist with the firefighting. An explosive disposal team also went aboard the ship to provide a residual risk assessment and ensure that there were no further dangers. At least one container fire that was extinguished. The crew of 23, including 13 Indians, was not injured. The U.S. Central Command reported that the vessel did not request assistance and continued on its way. The ship will be accessed for damage in Djibouti where it was expected to arrive on March 6 now. Container ship on fire after Houthi attack
Houthi militants have attacked the 'MSC Sky II', which was traversing the Gulf of Aden en route from Singapore to Abu Dhabi, with two missiles 91 nautical miles southeast of Aden on March 4, 2024, at 12.50 p.m. GMT. The ship’s master reported two explosions. The first exploded a distance from the vessel’s port quarter, while a second struck and damaged the ship. The crew was fighting fire and smoke on board. No casualties have been reported. The vessel’s last AIS signal was sent at 1.15 p.m.
