Maersk Drilling has secured a four-year contract from Tullow Ghana for the deepwater drillship Maersk Venturer. Expected to start next month, the contract covers development drilling on the Jubilee and TEN fields offshore Ghana. Under the contract, Maersk Rigworld Ghana will provide local services associated with the operation. Maersk Rigworld Ghana is a joint venture (JV) between Maersk Drilling and Rigworld International Services. It intends to further expand its network of local suppliers over the course of the new contract. A Maersk drillship has broken the world record for the deepest water depth for an offshore oil rig after spudding a well located more than two miles below the surface of the ocean. The well, known as the Raya-1 prospect, is being drilled offshore Uruguay in a water depth of 3,400 meters (11,156 feet). Statoil has agreed to take a 15% stake in Block 14, a frontier block in the deep water Pelotas basin, about 200km offshore, in the the South Atlantic Ocean. The Raya exploration well is due to be drilled in the block using Maersk Drilling's MAERSK VENTURER drillship, which covers 6690sq km, in 1H 2016. The block, awarded to Total in 2012, is in 1850-3500m water depth and has been covered by 3D seismic data acquisition. Based on the results of the Raya well, the partnership will decide further steps.This deal is subject to governmental approval.
