Cruise cancelled due to bow thruster damage
The 'Artania' had to cancel a cruise, due to start on Dec 6, for an unscheduled drydocking. The ship has to undergo repairs on a defective bow thruster, which was recently damaged and will need to be replaced.. Affected was a 14-night cruise to the Mediterranean, Morocco, Madeira and the Canaries. Starting from Genoa en route to Savona, the itinerary included visits to Málaga, Gibraltar, Agadir, Arrecife, Tenerife, La Palma and Funchal.Affected guests were promised to receive full refunds, as well as options to book a different cruise with Phoenix Reisen, Actually, the vessel is still maneuverable and was cleared for sailing by the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) and Lloyd’s Register. The vessel is expected to resume service ahead of an 18-night cruise to the Atlantic Islands and the Mediterranean. Celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Eve at sea, the ship sails a roundtrip from the port of Genoa to Spain, Morocco and Portugal. Ports of call include Palma de Mallorca, Cartagena, Málaga, Tangier, Casablanca, Agadir, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Sebastián de La Gomera and Funchal. The ship is scheduled to arrive at Madeira on the evening of Dec. 31, allowing guests to attend the island’s New Year’s Eve firework display.
200 passengers suffering from norovirus
200 passengers of the "Artania" are suffering with diarrhea and nausea. The cruise ship, which operates for Phoenix Reisen, departed from Bremerhaven. When the "Artania" docked in the port of Brønnøysund on July 8, 50 people were already affected. Since then, the number of sick people has apparently multiplied.The ship's crew wass isolating the sick. The first passengers began to fall ill on the voyage from Bremerhaven to Brønnøysund. Only healthy guests will be allowed to disembark in Alta and visit the city on July 12.
Medevac in Plymouth Sound
The Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team, a lifeboat from Plymouth RNLI and the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay were scrambled on Oct 15 at 10 a.m. to deal with a medical emergency on the 'Artania' in Plymouth Sound. A person on board had to be taken off the vessel while it was at anchor during its one-day stop. The Coastguard helicopter hoisted the patient and then landed on Plymouth Hoe. Two passengers medevaced on the Elbe
Two sick passengers were medevaced from the 'Artania' on the Elbenear Altenbruch in evening of Sep 22, 2023. At around 11 p.m., the “Artania” reported to the MRCC of the DGzRS in Bremen that two people on board needed urgently needed medical help. At the time, the “Artania” was on its way from Hamburg to Portsmouth, UK, and was sailing approximately near Brunsbüttel. The lifeboat 'Anneliese Kramer' of the DGzRS station Cuxhaven took on board an emergency doctor and two rescuers from the Cuxhaven fire department. The lifeboat then went alongside in moderate sea conditions. The patients were stabilized and then transferred onto the lifeboat. The 'Anneliese Kramer' arrived back in Cuxhaven on Sep 23 at around 12:20 a.m., where the patients were handed over to the escue service for further transport to hospital. Medevac off Thira
The Port Authority of Thira was informed in the afternoon of May 28, 2022, that a 28-year-old crew member of the 'Artania' which had sailed to the anchorage of the bay of Fira, Thira, was in need of medical care. He was disemberked and transported safely to the Athiniou port in Thira, from where he was taken to the Central Polyclinic of Santorini for medical examinations. Then he was carried to a clinic in Athens for further monitoring and treatment.
