The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration took delivery Friday of a 208-foot research vessel built by Marinette Marine Corp. in Marinette. The ship, the Reuben Lasker, is expected to support fish, marine mammals and turtle surveys off the U.S. West Coast and in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. The ship is the fifth in Oscar Dyson class of NOAA vessels and is equipped with gear for fisheries and oceanographic research, including advanced navigation systems, acoustic sensors, and scientific sampling. The vessel was fund through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Lasker is expected to be commissioned next year and will be based in San Diego.
