Convenicence flagged tanker suffered engine blackout
The Djibouti-flagged 'Njord' suffered an engine blackout enroute from Nipa Anchorage to Yantai, and drifted dangerously close to the coast of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on Dec 14, 2025. China's Sansha Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) issued a navigational warning, urging nearby traffic to proceed with caution. Arrangements were made to secure the disabled vessel. The tanker was taken in tow and pulled towards Hong Kong for engine repairs.
