Kiel Canal traffic barred after engine failure
Enroute from Antwerp to Halmstad the "Nina Bres" suffered engine failure on Jan 31, 2016, around 7 a.m. on the Kiel Canal near the ferry pt. Nobiskrug at Rendsburg. The ship drifted towards the ferry berth and was threatened to run aground. The crew of one of the ferries assisted the "Nina Bres" in stopping the ship with anchor manoevers. The ship drifted perpendicular to the fairway so that ship traffic on the canal had to be barred in the Schacht-Audorf area. Around 9 a.m. the tug "NOK 1" reached the ship and towed it to the passing pt. The "Nina Bres" was then taken to Kiel where she berthed at the Voith Quay at 11 a.m. for inspections, resuming its voyage to Halmstad on Jan 31 at 5.30 p.m., ETA Feb 1, 1 p.m.
Grounded freighter pulled off
The "Nina Bres" was pulled off the ground at Skåne in the afternoon of Mar 6. In the meantime the ship's tanks had been continuously controlled for leaks. The ship proceeded with its own power into the south port of Helsingborg for inspections. The master has a known disease in the past which seems to have contributed to the grounding when the ship failed to change course off Rydebäck at Ven but headed straight towards the shore between Landskrona and Helsingborg. Grounding off Rydebäck
Enroute Avedore-Karlstad the "Nina Bres" ran aground in the evening of Mar 5, 2013, between Landskrona and Helsingborg. The grounding occurred around 10 p.m. off Rydebäck. There was a crew of seven on board none of whom was injured. The Coast Guard Air Patrol KBV 502 was dispatched in the morning of Mar 6 but did not observe any oil in the water. There was no risk of pollution and the ship did not take in any water. A tug was on its way from Copenhagen to pull the unloaded ship off. The Swedish Coast Guard sent the environmental protection vessel "KBV 032" to the area which was expected to be on scene at 10.30 a.m. According to the police a sudden illness of the captain caused the grounding keeping him from making a turn off Ven. A preliminary investigation of negligence commenced against the captain, who was interrogated during the night.
