Ship towed to Vigo after engine failure
The 'MSC Katyayni' suffered a failure of one of its auxiliary engines on Feb 29, 2024, en route from Altamira to Belgium, on the North Atlantic, and had to be taken in tow by the tug 'VB Hispania' (IMO:9476018). It was pulled into the Port of Vigo at 12.20 p.m. UTC and docked at the Guixar terminal to carry out commercial operations, which, once completed, allowed the ship to be transferred to the Transatlánticos dock on March 6 to repair the failure in the propulsion system. It was estimated that the container ship would be able to operate again in less than a week. Repairs completed
Permanent repairs of the "MSC Katyayni" have been completed at the shipyard in Tuzla. Subsequently, the vessel shifted from shipyard to the port anchorage. Final test and controls were to be carried out by classification society surveyor. The vessel was to sail upon completion of final inspections together with documentation. The repairs were completed on Jan 1, 2019, After an inspection the sea worthiness certificate was issued. The vessel sailed from Tuzla anchorage on Jan 1, 2019, at 3 p.m., bound to Gioia Tauro, ETA Jan 4.
Oil spill in Gebze following allision
The "MSC Katyayni", operating between Piraeus and the Yılport Port in Izmit, allided with the dock of the Turkish port during its mooring manoever at the Yilport Gebze Terminal during its berthing manoever on Nov 19, 2018, at 7.15 a.m. A fuel tank at port side was damaged, and oil leaked into the port basin. The ship was surrounded with oil barriers by Mare Deniz Temizliği teams to keep the oil from spreading to the bay in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli. A surveillance aircraft was deployed to monitor the situation. Basin 2 of Yılport Port was also boomed off. The tugs "Med XXVI" (IMO: IMO:9110389) and "Efesan Port (IMO: 9777498) were assisting in the operation. The ship shifted to Tuzla anchorage on Nov 24 where repairs commenced.
