Grounding on the Maas
The 'Nijmegen Max' ran aground on a breakwater on the Maas near Roermond on the night of Jan 6, 2025, while the ship tried to leave the port of Roermond. The bow of the vessel remainedl stuck while the stern was still in the navigation channel. As a result, ship traffic between Linne and Roermondwas disrupted. Rijkswaterstaat was monitoring the situation. The master finally succeeded in refloating the ship in the run of Jan 7, and it returned to Roermond. However, part of the Maas remained closed for shipping due to high water levels. The grounding was the second accident of the 'Nijmegen Max' within a few months. On Sep 11, 2024, the ship had allided with the Willems Bridge on the New Maas.
