Nieuw-Statendam

A 77-year-old woman fell overboard from the 'Nieuw Statendam' on Jan 1, 2026. about 40 miles off the coast of Sabana, and vanished. The ship initiated SAR procedures after the incident, and searched the area working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard Cutter 'William Trump' and an MH-60 helicopter crew based in Air Station Clearwater assisted with the search´. The Coast Guard suspended the search efforts pending the development of new information, after the crews spent about t hours looking for the woman, covering 690 square miles. The 'Nieus Amsterdam' had departed from Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 27, and was due back on Jan 3, 2026. The plan to stop for a port of call in Key West on Jan. 2 was canceled. A family assistance team was supporting the guest’s family.

On June 1, 2025, at 3.45 a.m. the KNRM was alerted for the medical evacuation of a passenger from the 'Nieuw Statendam', en route from Rotterdam to South Queensferry, UK, off Hoek van Holland, who had suffered a heart attack on board the cruise ship. The medical staff of the vessel took immediate action. After they had telephone contact with the doctor of the radio medical service of the KNRM, it was decided that the victim had to be transferred to a hospital as soon as possible. The lifeboat 'Jeanine Parqui' rendezvoused with the ship at the Berghaven, and two rescuers were first transferred with the stretcher. The victim was prepared for transport. In addition to the victim, a doctor and nurse from the cruise ship also were transferred to continue the medical care on board the lifeboat. The victim was quuickly transferred to a waiting ambulance. The 'Nieuww Statendam', en route from Rotterdam to Funchal, requested the medical evacuation of a passenger with a possible stroke on April 23, 2024, about 91 nautical miles from A Coruña. The CCS Finisterre of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 402. The patient was hoisted and taken Alvedro, where an ambulance was waiting for further transport to hospital.

About 50 activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) protested against cruise tourism in Rotterdam on the morning of April 21, 2024. They tried to prevent the docking of the 'Nieuw Statendam' in Rotterdam and delayed the docking for a few minutes. The ship was then able to reach its berth at Cruise Port Rotterdam at 5.50 a.m. UTC. It left the port at 7.30 p.m. en route to Funchal.
