Ferry assisted in rescue of 16 migrants
On Aug 22 2025,, the 'Romantika', sailing between Bejaia and Alicante, spotted a fiberglass boat 80 kilometres southeast of Alicante. It remained in the area until the arrival of the SAR boat 'Salvamar Leo', mobilized by the CCS Valencia of Salvamento Marítimo. The 16 people on board, among them ten men, four women, and two minors) of sub-Saharan origin have been rescued. They have been transferred to Alicante for medical assistance. First sailing from Cuxhaven postponed
The first sailing of the 'Romantika' from Cuxhaven to Kristiansand on April 18, 2023, has been canceled because the preparations were taking longer than expected. Holland Norway Lines still sails from Eemshaven to Kristiansand, but due to struggles with its own quay, many sailings were canceled. Cuxhaven is a temporary solution before the move to Emden. The operator HNL is currently working with local authorities to finalize certification, customs and traffic arrangements, and operational details. HNL has now scheduled the first sailing on April 20.
Ferry route shifts from Eemshaven to Cuxhaven and Emden
Holland Norway Lines has found a solution for the recent problems on the connection from Eemshaven to Kristiansand. From April 23, 2023, the 'Romantika' will first divert to Cuxhaven and from the beginning of June the ferry will sail from Emden to Kristiansand. HNL lost some serious reputation over the many cancellations in Feb / March and the communication surrounding these cancellations. Many travelers seem to have find alternative to travel from Holland to Norway.
Ferry broke lose and damaged other ships
The 'Romantika', that sails between Eemshaven and Kristiansand, broke loose from its moorings the quay in the port of Eemshaven on Feb 1, 2023. After one of the three mooring lines at the bow of the ship broke, the other two followed amid stormy winds. There were no injuries, and the situation could be brought under control. There were no passengers on board. Three other ships were hit by the drifting vessel. The police started an investigation. Due to the damage to the ferry, the sailing on Feb 2 had to be cancelled.
