Cargo insurers have taken legal action in New York to recover salvage costs after an arbitration award. They were suing three major container liner operators in a US court in a battle over the salvage of the 'MSC Achimidis VIII' which had suffered engine trouble off Mexico in 2021 and was towed to port by Five Ocean Salvage. The lawsuit was targeting the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, AP Moller-Maersk and Zim with claims of contract breaches, unseaworthiness, negligence and indemnity. The insurers are seeking more than $2m in monetary damages over the engine problems.
New long-term time charter with MSC for 8,266 teu boxship Archimidis.
Capital Product Partners has agreed new long-term time charters with MSC for 8,266 teu boxship pair Agamemnon and Archimidis. The 2007-built Agamemnon will commence the new charter in the third quarter of 2019, upon completion of scrubber installation and passing of special survey. The 2006-built Archimidis will commence its new charter at the end of the fourth quarter of 2019, also upon completion of scrubber installation and special survey and in direct continuation of its present charter with MSC.
