Port workers prevented ship with Isreal bound arms from docking
On June 15, 2024, the Union of Workers at the Port of Piraeus (ENEDEP) mobilised to stop the Israel-bound 'MSC Altair' from docking at the port. The vessel was carrying war materials, destined to Gaza. The ship was forced to reroute towards Giao Tauro.
Container ship broke lose and drifted aground
On Nov 24, 2021, around 2 p.m. the 'MSC Altair' broke off her moorings at the Fairview Container Terminal in Prince Rupert, where she had berthed, coming from Phu My on Nov 23, and drifted aground off Digby island in strong winds. The ship was assisted by Port Authority tugs and the Canadian Coast Guard patrol vessel 'McIntyre Bay'. It was refloated with the assistance of multiple tugs and shifted to the outer anchorage in the Chatham Sound with own power, waiting for the storm to subside since. The ship moored in pos. 54° 10.14' N 130° 36.60' W and remained stationary with the tug 'Tsimshian Warrior' (IMO: 9849710) assisting as of Nov 25. Prince Rupert, along with the remainder of the North Coast and Haida Gwaii were under Environment Canada wind warnings, with southerly winds of 90 km/h, gusting up to 110 km/h in the forecast.
