Container ship allided with jetty in Mundra

Due to a sudden change in weather and strong winds across Gujarat, a serious situation developed at Mundra Port in Kutch on March 19, 2026, when the 'MSC Alexandra', which was berthed at the CT3 terminal of Mundra Port, broke lose when the mooring ropes of the ship snapped, causing the vessel to drift out of control in the water, before it allided bow-first with a pier that was under construction. Workers ran from the waterfront ahead of the allision, and the container ship sounded its horn in warning before the impact. Not only the vessel, but several heavy cargo containers stacked at the port were blown away by the strong winds, with some containers overturning due to the intensity of the gusts. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the port administration immediately imposed a complete restriction on vehicle movement inside the port premises and instructed employees to move to safe locations. In 2016, the Iranian VLCC 'Dream II' had beein in collision with the 'MSC Alexandra' in the Singapore Strait. The tanker's bow struck the port quarter of the boxship, damaging it and sending ten containers over the side. In May 2024, Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed to have launched an attack on the 'MSC Alexandra', but no evidence of impact or damage was forthcoming. The vessel's rotation typically takes it through the Strait of Hormuz to Jebel Ali. As of Jan 24, the ship was still at anchor outside of Mundra Port in pos. 22° 40' N 069° 46' E, where it has been stuck since Feb 25 due to the hostilities in the Gulf region. Houthis claimed attack on three ships

The Houthi claimed attack on three vessels, the 'Yannis' (IMO: 9401910), 'Essex' (IMO: 9403877) and 'MSC Alexandria' recently. On May 24, a Houthi spokesperson stated that they targeted the three vessels in the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Arabian Sea, but did not specify any date or further details of the attacks on the three vessels. The U.S. Central Command May 24, stated that Iranian-backed Houthis had launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles into the Red Sea. No injuries and damage were reported to any commercial ships. The 'Essex' arrived at Alexandria Anchorage on May 24 with no sign of unusual. The LPG tanker is managed by an Israeli company, the Zodiac Maritime. The vessel is anchored in Egyptian water. The 'Yannis had sailed from Port Said Anchorage on May 19 with an ETA at Mombasa as of June 2. Finally, the Houthis claimed ak on the 'MSC Alexandria', en route from Valencia, which arrived at Khalifa Anchorag on May 25.

Four Containers Recovered From The Singapore Strait After Collision

During the incident involving DREAM II VLCC and MSC ALEXANDRA (Container Ship) on 3rd August, 10 empty containers fell overboard. Of these, five fell overboard onto the deck of DREAM II VLCC and another five fell into the sea.Four of the containers that sank in Singapore waters have all been recovered at 0930 hours on 6th August. The owner’s local Protection & Indemnity club representative of MSC ALEXANDRA is making the necessary arrangement to retrieve the fifth container which sank in Indonesian waters. MSC ALEXANDRA is currently berthed at PSAC’s Pasir Panjang Terminal to discharge her remaining containers before proceeding to a shipyard to carry out permanent repairs, whilst DREAM II is safely anchored in Singapore and is making preparation for repairs. There were no injuries or oil pollution reported. There is no disruption to shipping traffic in the Singapore Strait and Port operation is also unaffected. MPA is investigating the incident. (See report in Marinelink ) Of these, five fell overboard onto the deck of Dream II VLCC and another five fell into the sea. Four of the containers that sank in Singapore waters have all been recovered at 0930 hours on 6th August.
