Tanker blown aground in Split

Feb 06, 2020 18:25

On Feb 6, 2020, at 3.20 a.m. the 'Rinella M'ran aground east of the islet Barbarinac in Split in pos. 43° 32.12' N 016° 27.20' E. The tanker was torn off the moorings of the INA terminal in Solin by strong winds which battered the area with hurricane force throughout the night. The vessel on Feb 5 already had completed offloading its cargo after its arrival from the port of Gaeta and got stuck on rocky bottom with its port side. Divers were to survey the tanker’s hull prior to refloating which only may take once the weather has improved. All 22 crew remained on board and were safe. Tugs of the Brodspas company and two pilots will be deployed if there is no critical damage in order to tow the vessel to a safe berth. No pollution was reported, but the fire department was ready to deploy oil barriers with a fire boat if needed. In the foremidday of Feb 7 the tugs 'Jaki‘ (IMO: 8715235) and 'Smjeli (IMO: 8715247) proceeded to the tanker. Also the SAR vessel 'Pojisan' (MMSI: 238116240), was on site.
