Jork Rider rescues woman from plane crash in Channel
An elderly British husband and wife flying a small private plane crashed their aircraft into the English Channel at around 3:30 pm Saturday just off the coast of Alderney. The woman's husband is still missing. BBC News reports that the couple were flying from Lee-on-Solent, in the UK, to the northern Channel Island of Alderney when the plane crashed. The woman was found floating on a raft and rescued by the German merchant ship, Jork Rider, but said her husband was still inside the aircraft when it sank. She was taken on board the Rotterdam-bound ship and then airlifted by helicopter to the Pasteur Hospital in Cherbourg. Her injuries are thought to be minor and non-life-threatening.
