Ferry rescued missing kite surfer

On Sep 23, 2020, the 'Adler Express' rescued one of two kite surfers who were pulled out to sea by strong currents off St. Peter Ording. They had planned to surf to Sylt islands. But off Amrum the wind became too weak, and both men drifted towards the open sea. One of them reached the Kniepsand off Wittdün upon Amrum and was treated by the fire brigade. Rescue services and the DGzRS were alerted and started searching for the other man with the lifeboat 'Ernst Meider-Hedde' and two helicopters. Also the 'Adler Express' diverted to the area by captain Gerrit Vöge. Besides the crew also the passengers were asked to kepp lookout for the kite surfer. After they located him, the Safety Management was activated and the man taken aboard over the bow ramp. Also his board was recovered. The man was then taken to Sylt where he arrived at 6 p.m. The other emergency services were stood down after the successful rescue.

Ferry docked due to technical damage

Due to a gearbox failure the "Adler Express" had to be taken out of service and was docked at the Husumer Yard in Husum on Aug 7, 2018, at 11.40 p.m. for repairs. The ship was expected to be out of service for about one week. The company adjusted its schedule, and the "Adler VI" and "Adler IV" will cover it along with the "Liinsand" which was chartered for the sailings between the mainland and the islands Amrum, Hooge, Föhr and Sylt. Some sailings from Hörnum had to be cancelled.

Repairs of grounding damage completed

The "Adler Express" was due to return to service on Aug 1 after completition of repairs of the grounding damage suffered on July 11. Since the ship was in the yard, the "Adler IV" and "Adler V" were sailing on an emergency schedule between Nordstrand, Hooge, Amrum and Sylt. Frames at the bottom of the hull had to be replaced on an area of 30 square meters in drydock in Husum which took longer than expected due to a complex structure of the bottom. The ship was back in the water on July 30 and was inspected by the German Lloyd. On July 31 at 10.40 a.m. it left Husum bound for Nordstrand.
