Molnes

After the "Molnes" requested assistance from the Norwegian Coast Guard on July 30, 2015, after the propeller was jammed by a wire and chain approximately 60 nautical miles northeast of Hopen in the Barents Sea, the patrol boat "Barentshav" would have been the nearest ship, but was busy towing the disabled Ålesunds-trawler "Havbryn". So the patrol boat "Sortland" had to be taken out of the planned routes and sail 380 nautical miles to be inserted in the towing operation far north in the Barents Sea. It reached the "Molnes" on July 31 at 3 p.m. after a drift of 36 hours and started towing the trawler to Honningsvåg. Both concoys were 30 nautical miles apart. The "Molnes" reached Honningsvåg after a tow of 350 nautical miles in southerly direction on Aug 3. Trawler Molnes propeller got entangled in net in the morning July 31, at that time the disabled vessel was some 15 nm southeast of Spitsbergen southeast tip in Barents sea. Coast Guard ship KV Sortland was sent to the distressed trawler. KV Sortland closed disabled Molnes in the afternoon Aug 1, and took trawler on tow.

On Aug 16, 2012, one crewmember aboard the "Volstad" was killed during cod fishing off Svalbard. The accident occurred while the trawler was located southeast of Hopen. The crew in vain tried to keep the man who had crush injuries alive. The Governor of Svalbard sent a Super Puma helicopter with healthcare professionals to the vessel, but that person was pronounced dead at 5.30 p.m. The ship was directed to Tromsoe.
