Two cruise ships hit by gastrointestinal outbreaks

Two cruise ships, the 'Eurodam' and the 'Nautica' have reported gastrointestinal outbreaks early in the new year. The 'Eurodam', carrying 2,900 passengers and crew members, saw 86 passengers, or 4%, and eight crew members contract norovirus during its southern Caribbean voyage. The ship returned to Port Everglades on Jan 8, 2025, and has implemented isolation and deep cleaning. The 'Nautica', with just over 1,000 people on board, reported 15 passengers and 16 crew members experiencing similar symptoms. Both ships were following protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.

Person went missing over board off Turkey

In the night of Aug 28, 2022, a person went missing from the 'Nautica', en route from Valletta to Istanbul. The ship circled for some hours, and Turkish police went on board the ship after it docked in Istanbul on Aug 29 at 4.55 a.m. The ship had left Barcelona on Aug 15 with calls at Mahon, Monte Carlo, Porto Torres before reaching Valletta on Aug 25.

Gale kept cruise ships in and off port

Due to a storm the departure of the 'MSC Orchestra' and 'Artania' was delayed after the port authority barred any ship traffic n port on Jan 18, 2020. Tugs were called to stabilized the ships at their berths due to the gale force winds. The call of the 'Artania' at Port Elizabeth was skipped. Also the schedule of the 'AIDAmira was affected as she could not enter the port of Cape Town, as well as the 'Nautica' which was slated to reach the port at midday. On Jan 20 at 9 a.m. the 'Artania' left the port enroute to Durban, ETA Jan 22, followed by the 'MSC Orchestra' short time later on its way to Durban with an ETA as of Jan 24. The 'AIDAmira' was berthed at 11:30 a.m., followed by the 'Nautica'.
