Bulk carrier rescued seven migrants

Nov 11, 2022 12:03

On Oct 29, 2022, at around 6 p.m. the 'National Glory', enroute from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Houston, Texas, spotted a raft in distress. The Captain, Tom Lisante, slowed the vessel so they could communicate via loud speaker in Spanish to confirm if the raft was in distress. The raft occupants confirmed they had lost their means of propulsion and could not make it back to land and needed assistance to survive. The 'National Glory' contacted United States Coast Guard (USCG), Sector Key West, to report the raft in distress. The seven asylum seekers, presumed Cuban nationals, were recovered from the small boat 25 miles north of Cuba. The National Glory then notified USCG Sector Miami and instructed them that the vessel diverted toward Key West to rendezvous with a USCG cutter operating in the area to disembark the castaways. It arrived in Houston on Nov 1 at 10.20 a.m. Report with photo: https://www.ajot.com/news/the-vessel-national-glory-successfully-rescues-seven-asylum-seekers-in-rafts

National Shipping of America and Rickmers-Linie Expand Break Bulk Services to Puerto Rico

Feb 11, 2014 09:35

National Shipping of America (NSA), which operates a fortnightly service between Houston, Port Everglades, and Puerto Rico, has partnered with Rickmers-Linie (America) to provide more global connections to Puerto Rico shippers and greatly expand break bulk service opportunities to the island. Rickmers-Linie will also serve as general sales agent for National Shipping in North America. The NSA vessel service, called the Isla Verde Express, connects the U.S. Mainland with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, offering the fastest transit times and using the most modern, greenest vessel in the trade. National Shipping of America deploys the MV National Glory, a 570 TEU, 13,800 DWT vessel sailing under the U.S. flag and endorsed for Jones Act trades. The National Glory is the only vessel in the domestic Puerto Rico trade that is constructed to carry both containers and break bulk/project cargoes, both above and under deck.
