Ship will be drydocked due to recent engine troubles

Jan 16, 2025 12:47

Three months after a series of engine problems started to impact multiple itineraries aboard the 'Regal Princess', the Princess Cruise has decided to send the vessel into an unscheduled dry dock in April 2025, a move that will shorten her transatlantic repositioning cruise. Guests booked to sail aboard the shup on a 24-night Night Western Europe & British Isles Grand Adventure cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Southampton were alerted to the change. The cruise ship is set to depart the Florida port on April 4 and arrive at Southampton four days earlier than planned, on April 24, rather than on April 28, which means that several port calls will be missed. The ship was slated to call at Kirkwall, Scotland, on April 24, Invergordon, Scotland, on April 25 and Edinburgh on April 26. The itinerary will retain port calls to four the ports of Falmouth, Cobh, Dun Laoghaire, and Belfast. Princess Cruises assured that the ship is fully certified for service by all applicable authorities and remains fully operational for all scheduled voyages through late April that will proceed as planned. Besides the British Isles ports, the ship is scheduled to call at Ponta Delgada, Azores; Brest, France; Amsterdam; Zeebrugge Belgium; Dublin; and Glasgow, Scotland.

After three cruises of the 'Regal Princess', due to depart on Oct 27, Nov 3 and Nov 10, had been canceled due to a technical issue with the power generators on the ship, Princess Cruises has now confirmed that all repairs have been completed, and it will depart on the Nov 17 sailing as scheduled from Galveston. Princess Cruises gave all guests who were booked on one of the three canceled cruises a full refund and a 50% credit to use for a future cruise. The Nov 17 sailing is a seven-night cruise to the Western Caribbean from Galveston. The ship will visit Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel.

Cruise ship suffered another generator issue

The 'Regal Princess' had also cancelled the sailing on Nov 10 due to a second issue that occurred on the vessel. A team has been working to address a major technical issue involving one of the power generators, which has been successfully repaired. As the vessel was preparing for the next sailing, a second generator suffered a technical failure., which meant additional time out of service was needed to ensure the vessel would be fully operational and safe. It wa unclear whether the failure of two different generators was related or simply coincidental. An engineering team was investigating the issue and ensure all repairs get completed in Galveston,
