On Aug 11, 2015, the "Merry Star" ran aground off Hakata upon Kyushu Island in the Tsushima Strait. The hull was breached, and the ship suffered a fuel leak. On Aug 13 the Japanese lighter tanker "Taiko Maru" was dispatched to the ship from Hakata.
