Medevac off Penmarc'h

Dec 03, 2016 18:26

On Dec 2, 2016, around 5 p.m. the CROSS Gris Nez was alerted by the MRCC in Madrid after a crew member of the "Nandu Arrow" fell ill. The CROSS d'Étel then coordinated the assistance operations. The "Nandu Arrow" was sailing 142 nautical miles south-east of Penmarc'h Point in the Bay of Biscay. Following a telephone conference with the Maritime Medical Consultation Center in Toulouse, the Maritime Medical Coordination of Finistère and the ship, the decision was made to evacuate the sailor by helicopter to the center Hospital of Brest. The "Nandu Arrow" then made a U-turn to get closer to the coast. The CROSS deployed a Caiman helicopter of the Lanvéoc-Poulmic naval base with a medical team on board which took off at 6.11 p.m. and reached the ship at 7.10 p.m. The sailor was taken care of by the medical team on the ship and then hoisted aboard the Cayman. At 7:30 p.m., the helicopter left the ship and headed for the La Cavale Blanche hospital where he landed at 8:37 p.m. The sailor was then taken care of by the hospital staff.
