Two LPG tankers transited Strait of Hormuz and reached India
The LPG tanker 'Shivalik', carrying over 40,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has successfully moved into the open sea after transiting the Strait of Hormuz on March 14, 2026. The vessel was being escorted by the Indian Navy and reached Mundra Port on March 16. The 'Nanda Devi' also passed through the strait at around 9.30. a.m. IST and was expected to reach Mumbai Port on March 16. The arrival of these ships was is seen as a relief for India’s energy supply chain. Both tankers were belonging to the Shipping Corporation of India. The 'Nanda Devi' reached Vadinar in Jamanagar on March 16 at 2.30 a.m., and anchored offshore to begin a ship-to-ship transfer of the around 46,500 metric tons of LPG to the tanker 'BW Birch' under the supervision of the Deendayal Port Authority. This followed the arrival of the LPG tanker 'Shivalik' at Mundra Port just 24 hours earlier, which brought in a further 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG destined for markets in Gujarat and Karnataka.
