Near collision off Brunsbüttel
The cargo m/v 'Nataly' (IMO: 8818764) was in a near collision with the 'Norrland' (IMO: 8818764) on the Elbe off Brunsbüttel in the early morning of March 1, 2020. She was enroute from Norrköping to Teighmouth, and the Ukrainian captain steered the vessel towards the radar line in the middle of the fairway. The 'Norrland' was approaching towards Hamburg, coming from Halden. During the change of the pilot off Brunsbüttel a dangerous course was remarked with both ships cruising each other. The pilot change was immediately aborted, and the master of the 'Norroland' changed course to avoid the threatening collision. The traffic control filed a charge against the master of the Nataly' for endangering ship trafffic. The vessel was ordered to berth in Cuxhaven for investigations of the water police. It berthed at 2.30 a.m. and was released at 5.10 a.m., resuming its voyage to Teignmouth with an ETA as of March 4, 4.30 p.m. Before, the captain had to deposit a safety fine of 3.000 Euro on request of the prosecutor in Itzehoe. The 'Norrland' berthed in Hamburg at 4.15 a.m.
Norrland refloated, crew to be fined
The "Norrland" was refloated and anchored off Ullensvang where is awaiting detail assessment. The crew will be fined because they did not inform the local authorities. The authorities were notified by witnesses. Preliminary inspection showed the grounding was caused by a technical issue of the steering gear. There were no reports of injuries or pollution.
Grounding off Ullensvang
In the morning of Sep 1, 2014, the "Norrland" ran aground at the shore of Kinsavik in Ullensvang. The incident, which happened at high tide, was reported to the police at 6:20 a.m. by a witness. The ship was enroute from Haugesund in the Stora Sound to Boliden Odda. At 7.1.0 a patrol boar of the police was on scene, and officers went on board and interrogated the 12 crew members aboard the freighter. No injuries, no spill reported. The MRCC was notified and contacted the crew. It was yet unclear whether the accident was caused by technical or human error. The ship would have to be pulled off with a tug after a survey of the hull by divers. The crew was drug tested by the police.
