Ship refloated after two days

Sep 26, 2023 23:24

On Sep 26 at 9 a.m. the 'NACC Argonaut' was refloated, two days after it ran aground near Cornwall. The reason for the grounding was under investigation. At least two tugs were helping move the ship to Lake St. Francis for further inspections. The tug “Ocean Intrepide” was helping to stabilize the ship when it was stuck and listing to port. The tug “Ocean K. Rusby” assisted with the salvage operation. Other ships in the Seaway started moving and the U.S. locks near Massena will become very busy later the day. There were 15 ships in the area of Cornwall, Ontario waiting to get through the system: 9 up-bound and 6 down-bound.

Grounded ship to be refloated

Sep 26, 2023 12:22

The 'NACC Argonaut' in the St. Lawrence River could be refloated on Sep 26, two days after it ran aground between St. Regis and Cornwall islands on Sep 24 at around 5:33 a.m. The tug "Ocean Intrepide", was on site to help stabilize the ship and a second, the "Ocean K. Rusby" was coming from the lower river to salvage the ship which was carrying a argo of cement mix. It has not been breached, and all crew and cargo were safe. Howver, 12 ships were delayed both upstream and downstream of the freighter. Traffic has been halted to avoid any vessels approaching the area around the vessel. A salvage plan was undergoing the final review. The ship will be taken to Lake St. Francis for inspections, once it has been refloated. The 'NACC Argonaut' ran aground on the St. Lawrence River just above Cornwall, Ontario, in the morning of Sep 24, 2023, while sailing upstream from Montreal to Oshawa, Ontario. The ship, which was partially loaded with construction materials, had veered out of the fairway and then got stuck and developed a list to port side. The tug "Ocean Intrepide" (IMO: 9203423), was called from Montreal and has arrived on site, the tug "Ocean K Rusby" (IMO: 9345556) was called from Quebeq and expected on scene at 2 aa.m. LT.
