Serious violation of the regulations of Ballast Water Convention discovered
During a routine inspection of the US flagged vehicles carrier 'Arc Independence' in Bremerhaven on Nov 26, 2024, a serious violation of the regulations of the Ballast Water Convention was discovered. The Bremen water police punished the violation and collected security deposits. The incident occurred on Nov 11 in German territorial waters off the island of Borkum. The ship discharged around 800 tons of untreated ballast water into the North Sea. Due to this violation, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency has ordered security deposits totaling 52,000 Euros against the captain in charge and the ship's first nautical officer. These were collected on Nov 26.
