Five people were killed and one injured after the tug 'ASL Mega' (MMSI: 525007381), with five peaople on board, which is linked to Singapore listed ASL Marine Holdings Ltd., capsized in Batam, Riau Archipelago, under adverse weather conditions on March 6, 2026, at 2.30 p.m. WIB, while assisting the container m/v 'Kyparissia' (IMO: 9618599), coming from tanjung Pelepas, at a jetty of the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia facility in Batam in pos. 1° 4'44.28"N 103° 53'49.39"E. The Batam Special Operations Command (KSOP) deployed the patrol vessels 'KNP 376' and 'RBB RB-002' to the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia shipyard. A rescue team from the Batam SAR Post was immediately deployedafter receiving the incident report. Five personnel departed for the scene using rescue vehicles. Upon arrival at the location at around 7:05p.m. the joint SAR team immediately coordinated with relevant agencies and began searching for the missing victims. One man was rescued alive, and three crew members were recovered dead. The bodies were taken to Aini Batu Aji Hospital for further treatment. The survivor received medical treatment. For one stilll missing crew member, Yusuf Tangkil (57), the search was continued in collaboration between Basarnas, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), relevant agencies, SAR personnel, and a company responding to emergency incidents in Batam waters. The survivor was found alive after being trapped inside the ship for three days. He was found by a team of divers on March 8 at around 5:10 a.m. The third day of the search operation had started at 4:30 a.m. A team of divers from PT ASL Batam was deployed to enter the ship's hull at 5:00 a.m. 10 minutes later, the team found Yusuf alive in the engine room. He was believed to have survived thanks to an air pocket in the room. The victim was immediately evacuated and rushed to Mutiara Aini Hospital, Batam, for intensive medical treatment. With the discovery of the final victim, the joint SAR team held a debriefing at 6:00 a.m., and the SAR operation was officially closed. The local authorities were investigating the cause of the accident. The 'Kyprarissia' remained stationary at the ASL Shipyard Area as of March 12. Survivors: M. Three crew members, a 59-year-old Malaysian, a Filipino man in his 40s, and a British man of similar age were killed, and three others injured in a fire that broke out aboard the 'Kyparissia', which was docked at Qzuay 118 in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in the Johor state on Nov 7, 2025, at 12.23 p.m. A team of fire fighters of the Johor Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene seven minutes later and found that the blaze broke out in the under-hatch section of Block 5 while during the unloading the containers. The injured crew members were taken to a private hospital in Iskandar Puteri for treatment. Nine fire fighters, a Fire Rescue Tender, and a utility vehicle were inmitially deployed for the extinguishing operation. The firefighters brought the blaze under control, supported by two tugs. After the fire on the 'Kyparissia', Maersk has confirmed that three people, including one crew member, have lost their lives. Malaysian officials identified the three as a 59-year-old Malaysian, a man from the Philippines, and another from Britain. Three others, a Malaysian and two Filipinos, were injured and are hospitalized. At this stage, the full extent of the fire’s impact on the vessel and cargo aboard had yet to be determined. The company was working closely with PTP, authorities, the vessel owner, and ship manager to manage the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. The vessel remained stationary at rhe Tanjung Container Terminal as of Nov 8.
