Purse seiner damaged by patrol vessel

During a fisheries inspection, the "Sortland" slammed into the starboard side of the purse seiner "Gerda Marie" (IMO: 9762259) on Oct 30, 2025, at 11.03 p.m. causing a dent with its bulb bow bulb in Sørøysundet near Sørøya in Finnmark. The incident occurred in connection with a boarding manoever. The vessels were steering in a crossing course at a low speed, when the purse seiner was struck amidships. The 'Sortland' suffered minor damage to the bulb bow. There were no injuries to both the crew of the 'Sortland' or the 'Gerda Marie' in connection with the collision. Patrol boat shadowed Chinese ship probed over damage to pipeline

The KV 'Sortland' on Oct 16, 2023, at 4 a.m. started shadowing the Chinese container ship 'Newnew Polar Bear' (IMO: 9313204), which is probed over the damage to a gas pipeline in the Gulf of Finland for about 15 hours, as it sailed along the western coast of Norway. Finnish investigators on Oct 17 said they were looking into the 'NewNew Polar Bear', and the Russian-flagged 'Sevmorput', as well as other vessels, present in the area when a Baltic Sea pipeline was damaged on Oct 8 due to an outside activity which could have been deliberate. The 'NewNew Polar Bear' left the Baltic Sea on Oct 16 and entered the North Sea to head north along the Norwegian coast. The 'Sortland' shadowed the ship until around 7.15 p.m. GMT, when the vessel, en route from St. Petersburg to Tianjin with an ETA as of Nov 16, was 43 miles northwest of Bergen.
