Russian controlled tanker still limping in the Skagerrak

Mar 04, 2022 12:56

The Russian-controlled 'NS Champion', which according to the ship's AIS signal is on its way to Skagen after it was denied permission to call at a port in the Orkney Islands last week, is now sailing on the third day around the Skagerrak for low speed. Danish ports are still open to Russian ships, but several Russian and Russian-controlled ships, like the 'NS Champion', are reluctant to call at ports because they are worried about being detained.

Russian controlled tanker limping in the Skagerrak

The Russian-controlled 'NS Champion', which according to the ship's AIS signal was on its way to Skagen after it was denied permission to call at a port in the Orkney Islands, has changed course and is now sailing in the direction of the Norwegian coast. The ship, which is loaded with Russian crude oil, continues to show Skagen as the next port of call, but the course has been clearly changed, and the speed has been reduced to an absolute minimum of less than one knot. Several Danish ports have called for clear guidelines for what should happen to arriving Russian ships.

Disputed Russian tanker now underway to Skagen

Mar 02, 2022 10:15

With the British closing of their ports for Russian vessels, the Russian tanker 'NS Champion' is now on its way to the new destination Skagen. The tanker failed to reach the British port of the Orkney Islands as planned when the British Minister of Transport on Feb 28 decided to close all ports to Russian vessels - both under the Russian flag, registered, owned, controlled, chartered or operated. The ship has therefore since changed course. In the Port of Skagen, Port Director Willy B. Hansen did not know anything about the 'NS Champion' being on its way, but indicated that there were a lot of vessels that write destination DK SKA, and then anchor on the roadsteads off Skagen. The tanker has an ETA as of March 2 at noon.
