Gantry crane total loss after allision
After the "APL Temasek" allided with a gantry crane and navy barge at Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) in Port Said on Oct 27, the crane was declared a total loss, Splash can reveal. The container ship has meanwhile been allowed to leave and sailed on Nov 5 bound to Le Havre, ETA Nov 12, but the losses from the crane allision will amount to millions of dollars. Despite the loss of the crane there had been no impact on terminal operations.

Major damage after allision in Port Said
Major damage was being reported after the "APL Temasek" struck a ship-to-shore crane at Port Said on Oct 27 at 4.42 p.m. leaving the crane on the verge of collapse potentially. The boxship came into contact with a gantry crane and a navy barge while berthing at the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) at Port Said i. APL was presently with the relevant authorities and stakeholders in damage assessment and in investigating the incident. There was some speculation that the vessel may be able to commence discharging work on Nov 1. The authorities have called crane specialists to assess the damage and provide the best course of action going forward. The "APL Temasek" was being deployed on the Asia-Europe Loop 4 service with calls at Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Port Said, Le Havre, Southampton, Hamburg and Rotterdam.
