Grounding off Ba Don
On Oct 17, 2020, at 3.30 a.m. the 'VTB Star' dragged anchor and drifted aground at the beach near the town Ba Don in the Quang Binh Province of the Gulf of Tonkin. No damages were so far reported. The ship was sailing in ballast, bound to Sonduong Hatinh, and got stuck in pos. 17° 45.85' N 106° 27.75' E approximately 30 metres from the coast of Quang Tho ward. The Gianh Port Border Guard Station and Quang Binh Border Guards were unable to dispatch vessels to assist the stranded vessel due to bad weather conditions. Local authorities have reminded the crew and the shipping company to take measures to prevent any oil leak.
