10 lost containers still missing - boxes washed up at Seaford
Ten containers with food products were still missing after being lost at sea off the Isle of Wight. The 'Lombok Strait' had lost 17 containers. A fixed wing aircraft located seven of them floating south-east of the Isle of Wight on Jan 10. Immediately after the incident all relevant authorities and parties were notified and Seatrade have since been liaising with the local authorities and the UK's HM Coastguard on the process of locating and salvaging the lost refrigerated containers with food products. Any sightings of containers should be reported to Solent Coastguard on 0344 382 0560, or on VHF radio. The 'Lombok Strait' berthed in Flushing on Jan 10. The Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to three shipping containers which washed up at Seaford on Jan 13 at about 7.50 a.m. to have washed up at Seaford. It was unclear from which ship they were lost. A further container, reported floating in waters south of Littlehampton, was being attended by a contracted salvage vessel. One container, holding food and packaging, washed up on the East Sussex town's beach. The HM Coastguard sent a fixed-wing aircraft on Jan 12 and continued to monitor for further missing units. All containers were to be assessed to establish their origin. Two ships lost containers in storm Goretti
A number of containers fell overboard from two separate vessels, the Liberian-flagged reefer 'Lombok Strait' (IMO: 9204958), en route from Portsmouth, UK, to Bridgetown with an ETA as of Jan 18, and the 'Condor Valaparaiso', enroute from Antwerp to Aviles with an ETA as of Jan 11, off the coast of the Isle of Wight within the space of an hour late on Jan 8, 2026, between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, one off the Nab Tower and another about 16 nautical miles of St Catherineโs Point. Around 3:30 a.m., the 'Condor Valparaiso', while navigating in the southbound traffic separation scheme (TSS). reported losing seven empty containers about 16 nautical miles south of St Catherineโs Point, Isle of Wight. The HM Coastguard was monitoring the situation closely and has sent a fixed-wing aircraft at 10 a.m. from the Newquay Airport, which was scouring the eastern coast of the Isle of Wight. Any sightings of containers should be reported to Solent Coastguard on 0344 382 0560 or on VHF radio. At around 6:30 a.m. the 'Lombok Strait' reported the loss of 25 containers. Relocation and recovery operations by air were currently underway for these navigational hazards, all located in waters under British jurisdiction. Exhaust valve defect off Portland Bill
The "Lombok Strait", en route from Dover to Bridgetown with a crew of 24 on board, suffered defect in its exhaust valve no. 6 on June 23, 2019, at 12.30 a.m. in position 50 10 58 N, 002 43 37 W, about 35 miles southwest-west of Portland Bill, while transiting the Casquets TSS southwest bound lane. The repairs were completed at 4.30 a.m., and the vessel resumed the voyage to Barbados with an ETA as of July 2.
Pineapples from lost containers wash ashore
The Meal Sand Beach in Burra and Watsness, near Walls in Shetland was covered with pineapples started washing ashore 10 months after containers carrying the fruit were lost overboard from the "Lombok Strait" in the Atlantic while travelling from the Panama Canal to Dover, reported on Oct 22, 2017. Two 40ft containers with pineapples and bananas had been washed overboard in bad weather at 11.10 a.m. The vessel was heading for Dover. The duty counter-pollution and salvage officer was informed and the Receiver of Wreck was notified along with the various agencies whose waters the containers may have passed through.
