Zombie ship in Strait of Hormuz
A ship that appeared to be taking on the identity of the 'LNG Jamal' exited the Strait of Hormuz on March 20, 2026. The vessel identifying as the liquefied natural gas carrier left the strait on the morning. However, the same tanker was also recorded as having beached at an Indian demolition yard in Oct 2025, where it iwas being broken up, according to market participants and port agent’s reports. The ship claiming to be the 'Jamal' was likely a zombie vessel that takes on the identity of a scrapped, legitimate ship. It marked the first known example of this happening to get through Hormuz since the beginning of the war.
