Tanker assisted 140 troubled migrants
On July 23, 2024, a migrant boat with 140 people on board was located 222 kilometers south of Gran Canaria, among them 20 women and two children, all of sub-Saharan origin, by the 'LNG Borno', that was heading towards Nigeria from Portugal. The captain of the tanker reported that the sea conditions were bad, with strong waves and intense wind, so he was instructed to stay close to the canoe and not lose sight of it until a rescue ship arrived. At 2:10 p.m., the 'Guardamar Calíope' confirmed that it had rescued all the occupants of the boat and was sailing back to the port of Arguineguín with an ETA at around 10:00 p.m.
