Master of Lisca Nera M helps in rescue of 246 migrants
Three patrol vessels of the Armed Forces of Malta carrying 246 rescued immigrants arrived to shore after an operation lasting several hours. The migrants, including 48 women and seven children, disembarked at Hay Wharf Base at around 10pm. Over the past 24 hours the Armed Forces of Malta had been actively engaged in a case involving a large fishing craft reportedly carrying the migrants. On detecting the craft, the AFM aircraft contacted a merchant vessel, the motor tanker MT Lisca Nera M,that was in the vicinity and requested the master to divert to the location of the migrant craft to assess the situation.
