Medevac off Wangerooge

On the afternoon of Oct 19, 2024, the lifeboat 'Hermann Marwede' of the DGzRS station Helgoland was deployed to medevac a sick crew member of the "Maersk Newcastle". A Filipino seaman had to be taken ashore for medical treatment. The 'Hermann Marwede' picked him up about seven nautical miles north of Wangerooge, where the ship was anchored. The transfer of the patient between 5.15 p.m. and 5.40 p.m. went smoothly due to the calm weather and sea conditions. On the way to the mainland there was thick sea fog with visibility in places of less than one nautical mile. At around 9 p.m. the sea rescuers handed the man over to an ambulance in Bremerhaven. Fairlead broke out during turning manoever

In the midday hours of Sep 16, 2015, a fairlead broke out aboard the "Maersk Newcastle" during a turning maneuver at the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven and tore a large hole in the main deck. The ship had just been taken in tow by a tug hen the accident happened. The fairlead and parts of a railing which had also been broken off were recovered and secured on board. The Maritime Safety Authority detained the vessel at the NTB Northsea Terminal until the damage has been repaired. The ship which had come from Hamburg was released on Sep 17 and left the port around midday bound for St. Petersburg, ETA Sep 19. Officials of the Water Police Bremen have launched an investigation. First ship to handle containers in new port

The "Anna Schulte" on Sep 17, 2012, was the first ship to berth at the new JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven for container handling operations. The ship came from St. Petersburg and docked at 6.15 a.m. next to the crippled "MSC Flaminia". Until Sep 18 it unloaded empty 553 containers which are to be sent back to Asia, whereby all four container gantrys on the quayside were used. The official opening of the disputed port will be on Sep 19.
