113 migrants rescued off Gavdos

On the evening hours of July 24, 2025, the 'Maersk Izmir', en route from Port Said to London Gateway Port, located and rescued 24 migrants from a dinghy south of Gavdos. The ship transported the castaways to the port of Karave of Gavdos, where they were safely disembarked with the assistance of a Greek Coast Guard Patrol boat. Early on July 25, a Greek Coast Guard Patrol boat rescued 35 migrants on a dinghy in the sea area south of Gavdos. Early on July 24, a Patrol vesselin cooperation with a Frontex force vessel identified a wooden dinghy with 54 migrants on board in the sea area south of Gavdos. The Frontex vessel took on board 33 people, while the patrol boat rescued the remaining 29 people. The total of 113 boat people were safely transported to the port of Karave of Gavdos and transferred to the temporary accommodation area of Agia. A preliminary investigation was being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Chania.

Maersk starts new Mideast-South Africa Service MISA with Maersk Izmir

Maersk Line will launch MISA, a liner service linking key ports in the Middle East and South Africa. The Danish carrier is expected to deploy six vessels of approximately 3,500 20-foot equivalent units capacity in the new service, which is slated to start in early April. The port rotation will be Durban, Port Elizabeth, Port Louis, Jebel Ali, Salalah, Port Reunion, Port Louis, Toamasina, and back to Durban. The Maersk Izmir will be the first ship to sail in the service, departing April 7 from Jebel Ali. Maersk recently announced plans for Mawingu Express, a direct weekly service between India, the Middle East and East Africa, with an April 10 start.
