A stowaway who jumped from the "Skaftafell" deceased in the evening of Oct 3, 2014, after the Coast Guard pulled him out of the North Sea. The Nigerian man was still conscious and was flown to a hospital in Rotterdam by helicopter where he died, The man had been discovered in the afternoon by the crew of the cargo ship which was anchored a few dozen kilometers from Hook of Holland. The crew put the African in a room on the ship. When they looked for him six hours later he was gone. Also a life jacket and a few personal belongings were lost. At 6.05 p.m. the freighter hit alarm. Two hours later he was found. It was not known how long the man had been in the water.
