Tanker waited for cash improvement off Harwich

Feb 01, 2012 09:12

Coing from Novorossiysk and bound for the Corytn refínery in Essex, the "Lian Xing Hu", is currently about 30 miles off the coast of Harwich. The vessel, which left the Russian port of Novorossiysk on Jan 1, 2012, and arrived in the Thames Estuary on Jan 28, was at anchorage for some days as Coryton struggled to raise the cash to pay for her 60,000-tonne crude oil cargo. Coryton, which supplies 600 BP and Texaco forecourts, and a fifth of the petrol used in the South-east, went into administration as its Swiss parent, Petroplus, filed for insolvency. After a two-day suspension of deliveries Coryton meanwhile resumed sales. On Feb 1 the ship finally moored at the tanker pier in Canvey Island.
