Disabled tanker towed to Dover

Mar 03, 2016 17:15

On Mar 2, 2016, at 6 a.m. the "Lizrix" with a crew of eight on board alerted the CROSS Gris Nez after having suffered a damage of its propulsion system in the traffic separation scheme of the Pas de Calais. The unloaded ship was adrift about nine nautical miles from Calais. It had been enroute from St. Helier to Immingham. As the crew was unable to repair the damage, the ship dropped anchor. Immediately, the Maritime Prefect of the Channel and the North Sea decided to send the emergency tug "Abeille Languedoc" from Boulogne-sur-Mer. As the weather conditions were deteriorating in the area, the maritime prefect notified the owner that he take the necessary steps to stop the danger which concluded in a contract to take the "Lizrix" in tow by the "Abeille Languedoc". The convoy reached Dover on Mar 3 at 4.30 p.m. Reports and photos: http://www.lamanchelibre.fr/actualite-153374-deux-navires-en-perdition-dans-la-manche.html http://www.lemarin.fr/secteurs-activites/shipping/24628-deux-navires-en-difficulte-dans-la-manche http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2926-1.jpg http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2926-2.jpg http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2926-3.jpg http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2924-1.jpg http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2924-2.jpg http://www.doverforum.com/images/sea-news/2924-3.jpg

Medevac off Falmouth

Mar 09, 2015 11:46

Both Falmouth lifeboats were launched in the early hours of Mar 5, 2015, to take paramedics out to the "Lizrix" moored in Carrick Roads to help a 57-year-old man who needed urgent medical attention. A Seaking helicopter of 771 Naval Air Squadron from RNAS Culdrose was also tasked to assist. The Coastguard requested the launch just after 12.40 a.m. and the inshore lifeboat "Eve Pank", with one paramedic on board, reached the tanker first at 12.55 a.m. The paramedic and a RNLI crew member went aboard and administered CPR to the casualty. The all-weather lifeboat "Richard Cox Scott" arrived on scene at 1.07 a.m. and transferred three more paramedics to the tanker. Because of his condition, the seaman was winched off the ship by the helicopter and taken to hospital. Both lifeboats were released from service at 1.35 a.m. and returned to station.
