Tug lost towed pontoon
On Jan 4, 2026, the towline of the "Leopard", enroute from Emden to Gdansk, snapped, the 60-meter-long pontoon it was towing went adrift 12 kilometers off Spiekeroog island. The emergency tug "Nordic" (IMO: 9525962) was called from Cuxhaven to assist. The Waterways and Shipping Authority deployed the "Nordic" along with the multi-purpose vessel "Mellum" (IMO: 8301981) from Wilhelmshaven, because the drifting pontoon posed a hazard to shipping. The ''Nordic' was able tio secure the pontoon and pulled it northwards, until a commercial tug arrived and pulled it to port. The ' Leopard' returned and entered the port of Eemshaven on Jan 6, assisted by the 'Mellum', which also dealt with the broken towing wire. On Jan 6 the 'Leopard' left the port again and resumed the voyage to Gdansk with an ETA as of Jan 14.
