Just days after the EU banned the transshipment of Russian LNG, Russia deployed four LNG tankers, the 'Nikolay Urvantsev' (IMO: 9750660) and the 'Vladimir Rusanov' (IMO: 9750701), both controlled by the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd, which rendezvoused with the 'Lena River' and 'Clean Vision' for an unusual double ship-to-ship transfer at the Kildin anchorage near Murmansk. The vessels were carrying supercooled gas from the Yamal LNG project operated by Russian company Novatek. The four vesselswere pairing up just south of Kildin island between March 28 and March 31, 2025. An STS transfer routinely takes around 36-48 hours. The 'Lena River' had departed from China at the end of 2024. The vessel subsequently idled for weeks in the North, Celtic and Barents Seas. The 'Clean Vision' had left from Mirs Bay near Shenzhen on Feb 21. The 'Nikolay Urvantsev' and 'Vladimir Rusanov' both had sailed from the Yamal LNG plant around a week ago.

A sick crew member of the 'Lena River' was evacuated in A Coruña in the morning of Nov 13, 2020. Salvamento Marítimo deployed the Helimer 402 SAR helicopter to the ship which was 20 miles north of the Tower of Hercules after they were notified at 9.35 a.m. The tanker was en route from Zeebrugge to Tangshan. The patient of Russian nationality was suffering from fever, nausea and stomach pain. The man, who had recently tested negative for coronavirus, was hoisted and transported to the Alvedro airport and, from there, he was transferred to the Quirón hospital in A Coruña.

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) delivered liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessel Hull Number 2557 at a ceremony at the HHI shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea on Friday, 4 October. The vessel was named “Lena River”. The Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) group will time charter “Lena River” from Greek LNG tanker operator Dynagas for several years. She will be the third vessel on charter between GM&T group and Dynagas after “Ob River”, which became famous last year for being the world’s first LNG carrier to pass through the Northern Sea Route, and “Yenisei River”, which was delivered in July. GM&T’s steadily expanding fleet of LNG vessels will be used to support its growing global LNG trading portfolio. The state-of-the-art “Lena River” features membrane tanks, has a cargo capacity of 155,000 cubic meters and is powered by a tri-fuel diesel-electric propulsion system. Her 1A ice class and winterisation equipment allows sailing in ice conditions, including through the Northern Sea Route during open navigation.
