Crew member died in accident
A crew member in his 40s from Hammerfest died after an accident on the 'Leander' off Vardø on June 22, 2020. Police was notified of the incident around 11 a.m. The vessel lay outside Hamningberg on the Varanger Peninsula for several hours, before heading for Vardø just before 10.30 p.m. AFter the ship returned to the quay at Vardø, the police launched investigations. The Øksnes Kystfiske AS wasstrongly affected by the tragic accident and offered support for the family and the crew. There were 10 crew members on board. The other nine ohave been taken care of by the crisis team in the municipality of Vardø. The Norwegian Maritime Directorate is routinely notified of the accident.
