Grounding off Scheveningen
In the evening of June 14, 2018, the "Sandettie" ran aground off Scheveningen at the South Beach. The ship was on its way into port to pick up two crew members prior to its voyage to Pasajes, ETA June 18, when it got stuck during the outgoing tide. The ship had to wait for some hours before coming off again on June 15 at 2 a.m. It dropped anchor on Katwijk anchorage in pos. 52° 11.17' N 004° 14.55' E and finally left the port area on June 15 at 2 a.m. and headed to Rotterdam, where she berthed between 11.20 a.m. and 6 p.m. before finally leaving towards Spain with an ETA at Pasajes as of June 20 at 8 a.m. now. The vessel was detained in Teignmouth on Dec. 16, 2012 as manning not in accordance with Minimum Manning Safety Document, as the master was in custody ashore. There was no look out during the hours of darkness and there was an ISM deficiency as deficiencies marked as ISM, there was objective evidence of a serious failure, or lack of effectiveness of the implementation of the ISM Code. Other deficiencies identified were the hull was damaged and impairing seaworthiness; the ship sanitation certificate was not as required and fire detection zones had not been identified. The vessel was released on the 20 December 2012.
Captain pleads guilty to drinking while in charge of cargo ship
A SHIP'S captain has pleaded guilty to being over the drink limit while in charge of a 2,000-tonne cargo vessel in Teignmouth. Gert Kolkman, 51 and from Holland, was arrested one hour before his 89-metre vessel The Sandettie was due to set sail destined for Holland at 7.30pm on Sunday. Kolkman appeared before Torbay magistrates on Monday and Exeter Crown Court on Wednesday for sentencing. At the magistrates hearing, Kolkman admitted being in charge of a vessel while having alcohol above the prescribed limit.
