The Port Authorities of Sami and Kefallinia were informed in the morning oFJune 17, 2023,, that a 58-year-old crew member of the 'Laura Bassi' which was sailing north of Kefallinia, needed immediate hospital treatment. The 'Kapitan Nasos' with an officer of the Port Authority on board, immediately proceeded to the position, embarked the patient and transported him safely to the port of Sami Kefallinia, where an ambulance transferred him to the General Hospital of Kefallinia, for further medical examination.

On Nov 19, 2022, an SAR operation was launched about 55 nautical meters west of Pylos after a migrant boat with 94 people on board got int distress. The 'Laura Bassi' rescued the castaways and headed to the port of Kalamata, where it safely disembarked the boat people in good health. A preliminary investigation was carried out by the Central Port Authority of Kalamata. Norwegian shipping firm GC Rieber Shipping is going to sell its icebreaking research vessel Ernest Shackleton to an undisclosed buyer after it negotiated an agreement for the early redelivery of the vessel from British Antarctic Survey. The ship was built by Kverner Klevin Leirvik in Norway for GC Rieber Shipping, and launched in 1995 as the Polar Queen and it was acquired by BAS in August 1999 under a long-term charter arrangement and renamed Ernest Shackleton in 2000.
