GOLD Coasters will soon be able to catch a glimpse of the Goldlinq trams after two of the 42 metre long trains arrived at the Port of Brisbane on Sept. 10. The trams are the first of 14 making their way from Germany and were unloaded from the ship on to two 20-axle trucks to prepare for the journey to the Gold Coast. GoldlinQ Chief Executive Officer Phil Mumford said he could not wait to see the trams on the tracks and hoped locals would be excited as well. A further six are now on their way to Australia, with one ship carrying three having just left Germany. On Dec 10, 2011, around 1 p.m. the "Palabora" enroute New Orleans-Hamburg allided with the middle wall of the North Lock of the Kiel-Canal in Kiel-Holtenau following an engine failure. Thereby a tin coverage of the quay was torn off by the ship and plunged into the water. The lock had to be closed for sihp traffic for one hour.
