Sheerleg raised sunken cutter off Duncannon
The Irish cutter 'Aztec-S12', 23.95 gt (CS: EU2534), from Skibbereen in West Cork, which had sunk on Jan 11, 2021, off Duncannon in the Waterford Estuary in Wexford County, has been raised by the 'Lara 1' on Jan 30, assisted by the Irish tug 'Ocean Supporter' (MMSI: 250005038). The wreck was transported to the New Ross Shipyard in Waterford for repairs. Before that, it had to be decontaminated. Two tons of diesel and 15 tons of rotten fish had to be disposed of. Because of the spring tides and poor visibility, which hampered the divers' work, the recovery had been a tedious job. The uplift began after the preparations on Jan 30t at 8:30 a.m. and were completed at 8:30 p.m. Five divers, the Coast Guard, naval officers and the 15 crew members of the floating crane as well as the tug crew were involved. The cutter, deployed from Baltimore, had suffered a leak while it was fishing and went down over the stern. The four-person crew was rescued by another cutter. The RNLI boat from Dunmore East also came to the rescue.
Crane ship raised sunken landing craft
The 'Lara 1' recovered the 19-meter- landing craft 'Tiffany of Melfort' owned by trout farmer Kames from Kilmelford near Oban, which had broken lose from its moorings near a fish farm in Loch Pooltiel not far from Glendale in the storm Aiden, which swept over western Scotland at wind speeds of up to 80 miles, early on Nov 1, 2020. The ship had drifted out into the Minks and initially disappeared. being suspected between Skye and the Shiants. The Stornoway Coastguard warned transiting ships of the navigational haazard. On Nov 2 divers discovered the barely two-year-old Kames flagship, which had cost £ 1.1 million to build at Exeter Fabrications, sunk off the Shiant Isles east of Harris. It had been driven onto the rocks and the hull was torn open. The North West Marine was commissioned with the salvage. The completely submerged wreck was then inspected by divers before the'Lara 1' and the work boat 'Paul B' from Tarbert, Harris were called. On Nov 9 the 'Tiffany of Melfort' was raised east of Harris and deposited on the deck of the crane barge because the damage to the hull, which had several leaks, did not allow towing. The entire trout harvesting gear was missing and was probably lost in the waters of the Minks. After the recovery was completed, the 'Lara 1' anchored near Ardnamurchan due to another storm and waited for the weather to improve before she could bring the landing craft to the James Watt Dock in Greenock, where the 'Tiffany of Melfort' should be thoroughly examined. Meanwhile, divers from Leco Marine searched the sinking site for debris and pollutants or damage to the rocks.
